The Order of St John maintains a rich tradition of ceremonial symbols and regalia that connect its modern members to centuries of history and service. These symbols are displayed during investitures, services of dedication, and other formal occasions.
The Maltese Cross
The eight-pointed cross, also known as the Amalfi Cross, is the primary symbol of the Order. Its eight points represent the eight Beatitudes.
The Mantle
Senior members wear a black mantle emblazoned with the white cross of the Order during ceremonial occasions.
The Chain of Office
The Knight Commander wears a ceremonial chain of office bearing the symbols and history of the Commandery.
The Banner
Each Commandery has its own banner that is processed during ceremonial services and investitures.
